Our City name is French for “Beautiful City,” inspiring creativity around every corner since Belleville was founded. From murals and galleries to indie art markets and one of the Nation’s largest outdoor art festivals, creatives find home here and add to the colour of our city.
Art on the Square
Art on the Square is a juried fine art show that is held annually in downtown Belleville the weekend after Mother’s Day. Featuring the original work of over 100 accomplished artists from over 30 states, wine court entertainment as well as delicious local food and drink, a Children’s Art Garden, High School Art Competition and Artist demonstrations.
Sculpture in the City
In 2007, ART on the SQUARE launched the Sculpture in the City program with the idea of adding permanent pieces of art to the city’s landscape. In the 10 years since, over 50 pieces have appeared in and around Belleville. These pieces have been purchased by individuals, groups, families, corporations and the ART on the SQUARE Committee. All sculptures have been donated to the city for Belleville’s Sculpture Collection.
Belleville Mural Project
Eleven murals and counting, the goal of the Belleville Mural Project is to make Belleville a destination location in Southern Illinois bringing more foot traffic into the area which will positively impact the success of our Belleville businesses by working to interject more public art into our city.
